“Backbone” of Incredible Indigenous Talent at Banff Centre

Thomas Fanua – Red Sky Performance: “Backbone”

Earlier this year our brand ambassador Waneek Horn-Miller had the pleasure of meeting 12 Indigenous dancers from 6 countries as the associate professor of physical and mental training at the Banff Centre for Performing Arts.

Their premiere, Samoan, dancer Thomas Fanua (above) leads Red Sky Performance in their newest production, Backbone,  which premieres tonight at the Margeret Greenham Theatre in Banff. This co-production by Red Sky Performance and the Banff Centre is a cutting edge new dance creation inspired by the backbone of the Americas, a continuous sequence of mountain ranges spanning North, Central and South America, and Antarctica.

Featuring dancers from Canada, New Zealand and the United States, Backbone combines contemporary Indigenous dance with athleticism to express their power, formation and spirit.

Conceived and directed by Sandra Laronde, with collaborative choreography by Thomas Fonua and Jera Wolfe. Featuring explosive live music by Rick Sacks and production design by Andy Moro.
